Susan Llorente: Named Nurse of the Year at the University of California San Diego Hospital.

Susan Llorente, BSN, CNIII, from thr 5th floor IMU has been named UCSD Healthcare Nurse of the Year for 2002! Sue began her career at UCSD Medical  Center in 1982 and has worked in the critical care areas as both a clinical and administrative nurse. She joined the IMU staff in 1989 and has earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues and patients alike. Throughout her career, Sue has demonstrated her selfless devotion to UCSD Medical Center, the IMU, and most of all her patients. Her primary objective has been unwavering… excellence in patient care!                                                                                                                  
Over the years Sue has seen many changes in IMU. Throughout the merger between the 5 IMU and 7 IMU, which resulted in an expanded 24-bed unit, she served as a supportive guide for all who were involved. Sue has consistently demonstrated her leadership qualities: she is creative and flexible, while always maintaining a calm and professional manner.      
 Sue has always been willing to go the extra mile in her support of UCSD nursing. She goes beyond the call of duty in training new staff, as well as leading and supporting established staff members. Her record in precepting new nurses in the IMU is commendable. She is a very active Competency Evaluator. Chairs the IMU Restraint committee, and serves on a wide range of other IMU committees, such as the Skin Care, Scheduling, Staff Performance Evaluation, Relief Charge Nurse and Staff Socialization Committees.  
Sue maintains her Adult Critical Care RN  certification by continuously updating her knowledge of the latest concepts and trends in critical care nursing. She is a member of the California Nurses Association and the San Diego Philippine Nurses Association.  
It is an honor to announce that Susan Llorente has been named UCSD Healthcare Nurse of the Year! Congratulations Sue!
